Saber
In Historical European Martial Arts, the saber is a one-handed sword known for its curved or slightly curved blade, protective guard, and emphasis on fast, powerful cutting actions. HEMA saber practice draws from military and civilian fencing traditions from the eighteenth through early twentieth centuries, including systems taught by masters such as Roworth, Angelo, and Hutton. Training focuses on timing, distance, footwork, blade control, parries, cuts, and thrusts, often using direct and efficient movements suited to battlefield and dueling contexts. Modern HEMA sabers are blunt training weapons designed for drills, sparring, and competition while preserving the speed and handling of historical examples.
